Ugly Paneling? Don't Rip it Out, Paint it!

A short hop away from the Highlands Neighborhood is the Neighborhood of Wheat Ridge. Unlike the older City of Denver that is filled with Victorians and Craftsman homes, Wheat Ridge is populated with many cool Mid Century models. Many of my clients are finding that they can double and sometimes even triple their square footage by relocating to Wheat Ridge. Sometimes a very cool Mid Century home comes with some less appealing design updates from the 70s or 80s eras like popcorn ceilings (yuk!), or dark paneling like I'm highlighting in this example.

Ripping out the paneling and repairing the wall can be very time consuming and costly. A more cost effective and time saving solution is to spray an oil based primer and then apply semi gloss paint to freshen it up and give it a more updated feel. This homeowner chose a light modern gray semi gloss for the fireplace paneling and white semi gloss for the rest of the home. Much better!
